There was once a girl who was sent to visit her aunt in Savannah, Georgia. Her name was Cammie. While she was there, her cousins invited her to a party that they were going to. Her cousin’s names were Myra and Horse (Horse is only a nickname). Cammie accepted the offer, and Myra was thrilled! Myra’s boyfriend, Stephen, was going to pick them up and take them to the party. They were also going to pick up Horse’s friend, Martin McLean, as well. It was 8 o’clock when Stephen finally came to pick them up. They were driving on a bridge on the North Side of the Island, when they saw a girl who looked like she was trying to get their attention. They stopped and pulled over, and the girl walked up toward them. Myra asked if she needed any help, and she said she just needed a ride. Myra asked where, and she said no where in particular. Now, to me, that’s a little weird; but, being the super nice person Myra is, she said, “Well hop in and we’ll take you to the party we are going to!” So the girl got in, and off they went. The girl introduced herself, and her name was Laurie White. Now, there were some strange things that Laurie said and did. When they got to the party, they found their table, and since the band had stopped to take a break, they walked out onto the pier. There was a pretty good breeze blowing, so Horse offered Laurie his jacket. Laurie said no, and in fact she wasn’t cold at all. When they heard the music start up again, they went back to where the party was and started dancing. While Horse and Laurie were dancing, Cammie noticed that Laurie’s dress was very heavy satin, and also very white. In fact, it looked perfect. Later that night, when they were on their way home, Stephen asked Laurie where he could drop her off. She told him to drop her off right where she was picked up. Everyone thought that was a pretty dumb idea, and Horse said that he thought they should drop her off at her house, since she told him where she lived. Laurie protested, so they ended up dropping her off right where they picked her up. When she was out of the car, and they were driving again, Horse said that when he was thinking how pretty Laurie was when he asked her to dance, that he wasn’t expecting her hand to be so cold. Apparently, her hands and face were freezing, because the others boys had also danced with her, and agreed that she was super cold. The next morning, Stephen called Myra and told her that he found Laurie’s pearl necklace that she was wearing the night before. Since Horse knew where Laurie lived, they thought that it was only right to return her pearls, since they looked brand new. Then they went to her neighborhood and started searching for her house. When Horse was sure that the house he saw was hers, he told Stephen to stop the car; but Myra said that he must be mistaken because it was a nursing home. Horse went up to the front door and knocked. He asked if they knew a Laurie White, but no one there had ever heard of her. So, Horse got back into the car, told everyone that no one had heard of her, and they started driving through town. They decided to stop at a local restaurant and get some cokes. They started talking to the man who was in the restaurant, and he said that he knew her when he was just a little boy. He said that she used to live in the house address that she had given Horse, but then she snuck away to get married to a young man she loved. They were in their car, when the car crashed, right on that bridge where Cammie, Myra, Horse, Stephen, and Martin had picked her up. As it turned out, the Nuns loved her, and they buried her in a satin wedding gown (just like the one she was wearing when she went to the party) and lots of pearls (just like the ones she had left in Stephen’s car). The man at the restaurant said that the reason they might have saw/danced with her because it could have been the anniversary (of the wreck). People still report seeing her sometimes, but we will never really know when her anniversary is. All we know is: as it turns out, the boys all danced with the ghost of Laurie White.
